Check-a-thon: Week 1 Highlights (with pictures)!

The week is coming to a close, but there’s more fun (and fundraising) to be had! Get answers to new parent questions and enjoy scrolling the gallery of highlights!

Capturing epic moments

If you go to Check-a-thon website you’ll notice the newly added a gallery section at the bottom of the page. We will continue to upload photos daily during the next two weeks. Be sure to check back often!

REMINDER: Super Mario Spirit Day is Friday, October 27. Send pics of your kiddos dressed as their favorite Nintendo character and we'll add them to the gallery!

Informational Flyers

Students were sent a check-a-thon flyer on Monday 10/23, which includes basic information about the raffle prizes (click to download the .pdf version if you didn’t receive it).

Parent/Families had a post on their feed in ParentSquare on Wednesday 10/25, which includes a good overview of check-a-thon (click to download the pdf copy if you want a copy to share with friends and family).

How much is a good amount to donate?

Since we have many new families at WGA, this question has come up a few times. Like many fundraisers, donations are based on personal comfort level. But as a reference, we are happy to share the data from last year's check-a-thon.

In 2022 donations ranged widely from $10 - $10,000 (the latter being the absolute outlier). Many families generously give in the hundreds. But plenty more whose donation range between $25-$100. Last year, the average donation amount was ~$150.

How does the student raffle and other prizes work?

Raffles and prizes are just one way we generate excitement for the students. Here are the breakdown of the rewards:

  • Students earn one (1) raffle ticket for each $50.00 amount donated. (Raffle prizes include a telescope, lego sets, Squishmallows, local experience passes, art sets, Snap Circuits, and more. Grand prizes are TWO Nintendo Switch with the Mario Kart game.)

  • Top three (3) earners in each homeroom will win a pizza lunch with their teaching team.

  • The top earning classroom in K-3 and 4-6 receives a class party to celebrate all their hard work. (Class earnings are calculated based on the average donation per student.)

The raffle drawing winners and top earners are estimated to be announced sometime during the week of November 13, 2023.

Thank you to our amazing volunteers!

We continue to be blown away by the support we receive from our families and parent volunteers. The creativity and generosity of this community is beyond words. Epic Bowser castles. Lit-up Rainbow Roads. Plethora of mushrooms. Ice world penguins. We try to highlight these behind-the-scenes PTO members in action in our photo gallery.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: If you’re around on Monday 11/6 between 8:30am-10:00am, we need help taking down the campus decor and returning WGA back to its pre-Mario state. Click here to sign-up.

If you have any additional questions about PTO and/or Check-a-thon, please feel free to contact us at wgapto@gmail.com.
