Volunteering at WGA Is a Work of Heart <3

Updated: Aug 24, 2023

Parents have been asking about volunteer opportunities at WGA (and the requests from teachers and staff are starting to come in).

What can I volunteer for?

Good question! Volunteer opportunities are fluid and can vary from year-to-year, depending on parent availability and teacher/staff needs. Typically, there are 3 areas where volunteers are needed:

  1. Event-Specific Volunteer

  2. PTO Committee or Program-Level Volunteer

  3. Classroom/Specials Volunteer

Is there a list of volunteer opportunities?

Why, yes!! We post all volunteer positions on our VOLUNTEER page. (So, bookmark this page!) This list will remain current throughout the year and include event-specific, PTO committee or program-level requests, and specials.

Each volunteer post includes the following information so you can choose the opportunity that is right for you:

  • Description (summary of the task)

  • Location (online/on campus)

  • Type of activity (classroom-specific, event-specific, PTO-specific, etc.)

  • Time commitment (approximately 1 hour, 15 mins, etc.)

We also post things that we know are 'coming soon' but the exact details are still unknown. This helps parents know of upcoming opportunities.

NOTE: Individual classroom needs are typically communicated by the teacher and/or Room Parent (i.e., planning a class party, making costumes for grade-level play, etc.) and may not be included on our website (unless specifically requested by the teacher/staff).

I'm open to help. Can someone contact me directly when something comes up?

Yes! If you don't want to check the volunteer page regularly, that's okay. In addition to posting online, our Volunteer Coordinator also emails parents directly when new opportunities come up.

We have a master list of parent volunteers, which helps us filter our notifications to parents by interest, type of activity, and availability.

Submit your name to our master list using the Volunteer Interest Form. It goes directly to our Volunteer Coordinator.

What if I want to get more involved with the PTO?

That's music to our ears! We post our PTO needs on our VOLUNTEER page, too. But we are always open to new ideas and different levels of support.

Check out our PTO Team and reach out to any executive board member and/or committee chairs to learn more about their needs. You can also send an email directly to wga.pto@gmail.com and share your thoughts there.

To the one reading this post: Thank You!

If you've made it this far, then you must be serious about getting involved! We want you to know that we never take our volunteers for granted. Words cannot express how much we appreciate your readiness and willing to help out our WGA teachers and staff throughout the year!
